presented. a new wireless controller Next-Gen Wireless-N, which becomes part of the mobile platform Centrino Duo.
The controller is the next generation of Next-Gen Wireless-N corresponds to the drafts of the specification 802. 11n. Standard 802. 11n suggests the possibility of data transmission in wireless networks at speeds up to 600 Mbit / s. For comparison, the WiMAX standard provides a throughput of up to 70 Mbit / s. Standard 802. 11n, which uses unlicensed in most countries of the frequency bands 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz, backward compatible with 802. 11a/b/g.
Ratification of the standard 802. 11n may be delayed until 2008. Nevertheless, many experts believe that the final version of the specification will be little different from the rough. That's why Intel has decided to accelerate the adoption of the standard, without waiting for the final completion of its development.
At Intel, noted that the new controller Next-Gen Wireless-N is different low -power, making battery life a laptop battery in a wireless network will increase by about an hour, compared to existing solutions the standard 802. 11n. Simultaneously with the announcement of the Next-Gen Wireless-N, Intel announced the launch of the program Connect with Centrino, within which is testing a new wireless controller for compatibility with other manufacturers, in particular, Asus, Belkin, Buffalo, D-Link and Netgear.
It is expected that laptops with controllers Intel Next-Gen Wireless-N before the end of this month will release the company Acer, Asus, Gateway and Toshiba. Organization of Wi-Fi Alliance plans to begin certification of devices that meet the draft specification 802. 11n, in the second quarter of this year.
